Its Detox time! Its time to radiate beauty from the inside out!
Its been a stressful year, so I have decided to slow down, be nice to myself and embark on a detox! The kinder we are to ourselves the happier our body will feel too.
I have always believed that each choice we make impacts on our life and that our body sends important signals for us to read. As a wellness expert I am more than aware of such signals, yet, its easier to preach than to live such philosophy during busy times!
The body speaks volumes about what ails it - from obvious warnings like swollen glands and a fever that accompanies an infection to subtle clues like body aches. Some signs that seem alarming may actually be harmless but some that seem minor can warn of serious disorders. The problem is that many of us don't recognize the warnings, or even ignore them and simply put them down to stress! even when they're staring us in the face.
But it's important to pay attention to our body - Knowledge is power!
Stress - We all talk about stress, feeling stressed, usually when we feel we have way too much to do and too much on our minds, or other people are making unreasonable demands on us, or we are dealing with situations that we do not have control over. As yet stress is not a medical diagnosis, but severe stress that continues for a long time may lead to many health issues.
We live in a fast paced society and stress is an unavoidable part of everyday life, meaning different things to each of us. You only have to pick up a newspaper, read a magazine, watch television, listen to the radio or walk into any High Street bookshop and see the many books written on the subject of stress...
You can reduce the effects of stress by being more conscious of the things that cause it, and learning to handle them better, using relaxation techniques as well as other lifestyle changes.
I am a big fan of cleansing, fasting and the Lemon Detox; not for its weight loss benefits but rather as it is an Ayurvedic cleansing program that aims to rid the body of toxins and free radicals that destroy healthy cells and are responsible for a wide range of diseases.
The purpose of this body cleanse is to reduce toxins and the accumulation of waste in the digestive tract by acting like a liquid brush that scrapes off the waste in order to allow the digestive system to function at an optimal level once again.
In his classic 1939 book “Back to Eden”, Jethro Kloss, the father of herbalists points out:
“Lemon is a wonderful stimulant to the liver and is a dissolvent of uric acid and other poisons and liquefies the bile.
He goes on to add: “… Lemon is an antiseptic, or is an agent that prevents sepsis [the presence of pathogenic bacteria] or putrefaction [decomposition of tissue]. It is also anti-scorbutic, a term meaning a remedy which will prevent disease and assist in cleansing the system of impurities.”
Lemon is also believed to help dissolve gallstones and is a superior body alkalizer.
I grow up eating a healthy mediterranean diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy, and lean proteins like fish, chicken and of course healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil. I advocate healthy eating and wellness in all forms and as with all natural remedies and treatments, my only recommendation is be disciplined and regular and only embark on a natural detox after having consulted with your doctor or a nutritionist and only if you are healthy!
Follow me on my detox journey! Everyday I ll share articles on green beauty, detoxing and fasting, wellness, yoga, meditation and everything that I will need throught my plan.
